Exploring newer robotic systems- Medbot Toumai: Insights, Learning and evolving possibilities

Robotic surgery continues to advance at an impressive pace, and every new platform brings fresh possibilities for the future of patient-centric care.

Last month, I was invited to explore and test-drive the New Medbot Toumai robotic system installed recently at the Asian Institute of Nephrology and Urology (AINU) Hyderabad.
Experiencing the console, instrument articulation, and workflow dynamics firsthand was both exciting and insightful. Opportunities like these help us understand how emerging technologies can refine surgical precision, support better ergonomics, and ultimately enhance procedural confidence.

The entry of newer robotic systems into the Indian healthcare landscape is creating healthy momentum. Growing innovation and competition are gradually making high-quality minimally invasive surgery more accessible, while encouraging continuous improvement in design, performance, and cost-effectiveness. As surgeons, this broadens our ability to choose platforms that best meet patient needs and clinical demands.

I’m grateful to the Medbot Toumai team- Dr Mahesh Sable, LALIT JHA ,B S Prashanth & AINU team for the invitation and warm hospitality.
Interacting with a new system at close quarters reinforces the belief that technological evolution—when aligned with patient benefit—can truly elevate surgical care across specialties.
