Honoured to be invited as a speaker by the Department of
Surgery, AFMC Pune, and the Poona Surgical Society for the CME “Fortifying
the Frontline: Abdominal Wall Reconstruction,” held at AFMC Pune on 11
October 2025.
Abdominal wall reconstruction and hernia repair can be
approached through multiple tissue planes. The preperitoneal approach,
pioneered by Dr Todd Heniford, offers exceptional versatility—providing
access to all regions of the abdomen and enabling repair of hernias of
virtually any size, while largely preserving the muscle planes. Despite its
technical demands, it remains a powerful and anatomically sound strategy.
In my talk on “Versatility of Ventral TAPP
(Transabdominal Preperitoneal) Approach,” I shared my work demonstrating
how both laparoscopic and robotic TAPP can be effectively applied to
hernias across all abdominal quadrants. This included very large (W3) and
multiple recurrent hernias, even in patients with multiple previous surgeries.
The presentation was supported by operative case videos and follow-up CT
imaging.
The session generated engaging academic discussion and
meaningful interaction. It was a privilege to present my work in the presence
of visiting AWRSC faculty—Trustee Dr Ramesh Punjani—and my AWRSC
colleague and friend, Dr Rajesh Shrivastava.
